Case Study

Police

In our group, we discuss about the representation of the police on television programmes such as ‘Road wars and Police Camera’, Action, Over sensationalised. So how are the police shown in the media and in society? As a group we came up with some opinion on why the police are over sensationalised, we said that ‘they make the police official seem powerful statue’ and also we came up with that ‘it makes them look more successful’ when being in the media, that no one can stop doing. As a group, we had to answer the following question, ‘what is the stereotype representation of the police on the television? Some of the many points we found as a group were that, ‘ they are trust worthy, they are never wrong, that they always do right, also, helpful, well dressed professional, moreover, they are right with the law and that they are mainly men than women.

Another question we answered as a group with that ‘what would be an alternative representation exist? We came up with is that all the police officer are bad and evil, always committing crime and always bent, also, they don’t look after people in society, they don’t protect others and that they aren't helpful. Also, we had to come up with some of the theories we can link with this case study, two of the theories we can link with it is Stuart hall – moral panic and the Mulvey – stereotypes, is that the media is exaggerate.
